We’d Like To Introduce…..

Emma Roberts (There are 2 Emma’s within the Hoppers Empire), Negotiator @ Leyburn Office. I am the technophobe of the office and also a returnee to the industry. I started my estate agency career back in the early 90’s when all we had was a paper and pen. It has been a steep learning curve for me using this computer thingy and has provided much amusement for my colleagues. Times have certainly changed but I have rediscovered a love for estate agency. I had forgotten how rewarding it is to help people find their dream home and how varied the search for that can be. I’m a bit of an all rounder in the office but love the matching of the right home to the right person and then progressing the sale. It can be quite a challenge sometimes but it is never dull.

Pam, Negotiator and Rental Admin @ Settle Office Being a people person, Estate Agency appeals to my personality. I get to spend the day chatting to people on the phone &  also meet in person whilst on viewings, hence my favourite role. I work from both the Settle & Hawes offices & also manage rental properties in those areas. Rentals are very different from sales & can be quite challenging at times. I enjoy working for Hoppers, the staff are all friendly & supportive & we are always encouraged to go that extra mile for our customers. This can be very satisfying when a sale or rental completes .

Tom, Valuer @ Leyburn Office You could say that estate agency is in my blood. My great, great grandfather Joseph Hopper established this business in 1886, together with his son Joseph Redvers Hopper.  They used to sell anything and everything in their day!! 20 years ago my mum and dad took on his mantle and rebooted J.R Hopper & Co as the estate agents you see before you. I needless to say have grown up learning the ins and outs of running the business and estate agency in general. I am now the Assistant manager and senior valuer working out of our Leyburn office. If you want to sell your home I look forward to meeting you…..

We’d Like To Introduce……….

Mandy, Negotiator @ Leyburn Office. I’m still classed as the newbie so I guess I’m technically in training for a while longer. Coming from a hospitality background has been an interesting transition. I’m not going to lie – having a nosy round people’s homes is great!! Obviously there’s a lot more to the job than that but seeing the finishes on some of these properties blows me away!! I get to go and take all the pictures & measurements, type up the details to get everyone interested and deal with the people wishing to view. It’s similar style customer service but at a definite slower pace! No 2 days are the same – I could be in the office typing up & answering inquiries or I could be out doing viewings. It’s certainly not the stereotype estate agency was once made out to be and I’m finding an interesting new challenge at every turn (and also a possible addiction to home buying programmes on TV!!!)

Buying Vs Renting

According to a recent estate agency survey, buying a property is cheaper than renting one. Conducted by Relocation Agent Network, of which J.R. Hopper & Co is a member, not only is it cheaper to buy, but you could make significant savings too. Relocation Agent Network, the national network of independent estate agents asked its members whether it was cheaper to buy or rent a three-bedroom house over the course of a calendar year. 85% said that it was cheaper to buy. The national survey also looked at the possible savings you could make when buying. Based on a three-bedroom house, member respondents were asked what they estimated the annual saving was from buying a property instead of renting one. Nearly a third (31%) of member respondents stated that it was possible to save up to £1,000 a year, with another 27% indicating a potential saving of up to £1,500 could be made. As more buyers begin entering the market, it would appear that it is due to more availability in the mortgage market, with the majority of Network members (37%) indicating so. Brian Carlisle   from J.R. Hopper & Co, the member of Relocation Agent Network in North Yorkshire said, “Our Network survey results demonstrate that buying…
