It’s funny that you can live in an area all your life and never fully appreciate it until a stranger asks you about it.
Yorkshire is informally referred to as God's country (although folk from Lancashire would argue this point!) And you know what, it really is something else. So many amazing views, features and activities to enjoy in one area that it would take all day to list them, and even then some great ones would be missed. Nestled in the north of this great county the Dales is home to so much wonder.
Picture postcard villages, unique selling points, hidden treasures........where do you begin?
We could sit here and discuss each area with its towns and local markets and fairs and festivals but that doesn’t tell you what life in the Dales is about. At Hopper’s we are here to sell a lifestyle not just a house. This is a place to settle, your forever home, because once you’re here you won’t find a decent enough reason to leave.
The initial idea of this blog was to give you a piece of history for a particular village/town but as the words appear on the paper it would seem that the idea of ‘Dales Life’ is the way we’re heading.
A holiday in the Dales will show you anything that you choose to see and do. Does it show you the farmers getting up at 5am to go milk the herd, the game keepers heading out to check the Pheasant feeders, the local business owners preparing for another day, the hive of activity in each and every village and town as locals get ready for school and work?
It’s no different to home life, you reply. That’s true and here each village and town is a community. Everybody knows everybody. It’s not a place to come and hide away it’s a place to get involved. Village fetes, cake sale charity events, Bonfire night, Zumba classes and choir practice, they are all there needing support.
The difference being that a lot of people would end up very isolated without these. The Dales covers such a wide area – some places are so beautifully remote that without getting involved you might not see anyone for days! Having said that, that might be exactly why you are looking to buy in the Dales – escape the hub and bright lights and find your inner peace.
You can’t narrow it down to just one thing that makes the Dales so special. It’s not like you cross an invisible border into the most beautiful area ever seen (obviously that is part of it J).
Spend time in your chosen village/town and all of a sudden you will find that you have an infinity to the area. It becomes part of you. You can’t escape it – why would you want to?
Yorkshire folk as a rule are amongst the friendliest in the UK. Dales folk even more so! They want to know which family you’re related to. It doesn’t matter if you’re not, it just means that they want to know your back story. Inquisitive, not nosy.
‘Dales Life’ is something we can sell, but not necessarily explain! You immerse yourself in all that goes on and suddenly it’s just part and parcel of ongoing life.
If you’re reading this and it has piqued your interest then I guess you had better drop us a line!!
Tell us what you are looking for and we will do all we can to find your forever home 😊
